Labor didn’t create this mess and problem. But they do have a duty to fix it. In Labor’s first majority term we did see a stalling of supply growth due to blockages to bills but they could have done other things. Now Labor’s in their second majority government term so there is little excuses. Fix it

Good to hear that some in Labor are informing Chalmers to make changes to the Capital Gains Tax Discount. Can we finally get some more progressive economic policies passed. The Liberals are losing federal support. Now is the time to act and be decisive. Bold reform will make Labor more electable too

Immigration is closely tied to rental vacancy rates. When borders closed in 2020, Sydney & Melbourne (60% move to just these 2 cities) saw vacancies surge. Now, with migration ramping up again, rates have plunged. Demand is back but rental supply isn’t keeping pace. That’s why rents are skyrocketing

This is most likely fake, but make no mistake this is exactly how many landlords and property investors feel about us. You’re not a tenant, you’re a revenue stream. They bought cheap, now you pay the price. Housing isn’t shelter to them it’s passive income and power. Our pain is their joke & gain :(

The Aussie property market is a macroeconomic risk. Artificially inflated by tax incentives, high migration, and suppressed supply, it distorts investment, lowers productivity, and concentrates wealth. It’s an unsustainable engine of GDP that risks systemic failure. Does the Gov not realise this?

The Australian government will never make housing truly affordable. It’s not about what’s possible but it’s about what they choose to do. They’d rather protect GDP headlines than fix rent, cost of living, or housing for regular Aussies. Here’s how it could be fixed fast:

I hate renting in Australia. Being young and poor feels like a life sentence. Something you can’t control (like the year you’re born) now decides your future. An average Aussie used to afford a house. Today, even an average Aussie struggles to afford a two-bedroom apartment in an ‘undesirable’ area.

Labor needs 39 Senate votes to pass legislation. With 29 of their own and the Greens 10, they rely on Greens support. So couldn’t the Greens push for a 50% HECS wipe instead of 20%, knowing Labor needs them to pass it? Why settle when you hold the balance of power, is what they may be thinking?

In reference to my last post, here’s context I should’ve added. This is from the Aus Gov: younger generations vote less for the Coalition, while older generations vote Coalition the most. Voting trends are starkly generational. Hence why I generalised as it’s statistically proven to be true

When 95% + of rentals are unaffordable for essential workers (nurses, ambos, educators, drivers, cleaners) something is deeply broken. These are the people holding society together. If they can’t afford to live, the system isn’t just unfair, it’s unsustainable. Priorities are backwards. How pathetic

When even Domain (normally cheerleaders for house price growth) admits Australian property is 30% over fair value, you know it’s bad. Experts say the only fix is a decade-long price freeze or risk an “economically cataclysmic” crash. This is how broken the system is.

Claire O’Neil told Triple J last year that reducing property prices wasn’t Labor’s goal. Nearly a year later, home prices are rising nearly twice as fast as wages. If Labor’s strategy was wage growth outpacing housing, it’s failing. Prices stay unaffordable and wage growth lags.

NSW nurses (literal lifesavers) can no longer afford to live near their workplaces. Essential service workers aren’t a luxury; they’re the backbone of any city. Without them, basic services collapse. Housing should never push them out of the communities they serve.

“We don’t want to leave, but we’re being priced out.” Young people in Sydney are being told to just pack up their lives and move rural and leave friends, family, and jobs just to find shelter. No generation in Australia’s history was ever told to abandon their home city just for basic housing.

I enjoy FJ’s content and think he gets a lot right about politics, but he’s not perfect (no one is, and Labor aren’t a silver bullet). Honestly, PunterPolitics, JuiceMedia & Swollen Pickles seem way more in touch with how extreme the housing and cost of living crisis really is. Agree/disagree & why?

When you play fair and pay tax, you get punished. There’s zero incentive to contribute when the rich dodge tax, hoard assets and on top of that receive Gov benefits. It’s not a fair system it’s one where the poor fund everything while the wealthy take and exploit. It’s the opposite of reciprocal!

Yet again,Australia’s media cries poor for the ultra-wealthy. A tiny super tax on balances over $3m sparks headlines like “eat the rich tax” & “swallowing young hopes” when younger Aussies can’t even afford a home, let alone dream of $3m in super. Aus Corporate news hate the words ‘Tax’ and ‘Reform’
