Climate question that is confusing me

Try looking at it this way. It is the global temperature. So that means that the hemisphere that is in winter is included in that average and that the oceans which drive our weather and makes for our climates is included in that. So local places are going to be much much warmer than that 1.5degrees. Think of these places heating up and the air above them rising faster which is pulling in air from cooler places. This gives you the blizzards and polar vortexes that get pulled into places that may have already warmed up, thought it was spring and plants have budded or flowered. Crops are now destroyed that feed millions of people. Or think of the ocean currents which are driven by the salt in the water which now diluted from melting ice at the poles stops moving or move differently. Those currents are what makes the coast lines of Europe and North America far more temperate than other coasts at the same latitude and why you see palm trees in Ireland. It is an entire planet where plants and animals have adapted to a climate and weather over many thousands of years long. Think of it as more variance which the planet is not adapted to. It is not that humans are going to go extinct. Millions will die but not the oil execs. Those deaths will be from starvation, increased violent storms, flooding, etc. Things that people are already dying from and humans have become used to. Many will say, so what?

It’s not like turning up the thermostat in your house. 1.5 degrees global average increase doesn’t mean every day and place on the surface of the earth increases exactly 1.5 degrees. There’s a lot of variance. It’s not distributed evenly. Some places get less, some get more, and some get a lot more. We’re already seeing major heatwaves in some parts of the world, and that’s only going to increase. This disrupts weather patterns and ocean currents in ways that will have major consequences. Jet stream, Gulf Stream, polar vortex, etc.
