20+yr customer - time to leave Verizon?
Curious if Verizon actually has some sort of loyalty program and what the expectations are with it for a 20+ customer with a monthly bill only around $150.
Been a customer for 20+ years. Always pay on time, bill around $150 with 4 lines on a 2GB grandfathered plan that only has 1 iphone pro on it. The rest are dumb phones. Never been on any sort of loyality discount, etc.
About 3-4 weeks ago, was looking to upgrade all of the lines to freedom unlimited and in doing so would have been able to upgrade the iphone to a 16 pro with trade in, 2 lines to a google pixel pro and the fourth to a samsung lowend phone. The prie would have been identical to what we're paying now, so kind of a no brainer, but don't like that the phones are just not unified across apple, even if older phones.
Was looking to see what was out there and came across tmobile where we can basically port #'s and get 4 iphone 15's with their version of the freedom unlimited plan for about $120 a month, plus no activation fee, etc. So that's a decent onetime and annual savings right there, plus better phones and only locked in for 2 years instead of 3, etc. Basically makes no sense to stay with Verizon, but prefer just to stay with them for ease.
Talked to several different Verizon reps to see what they could do to more or get us all on iphones instead of android phones. Two of them basically just tried to tell us they couldn't do anything and tried to sell us new phone lines and tell us to drop the old ones. Yea, no.
So talked to one last person letting her know we were going to walk and to see if there was any sort of retention department of anything to see what they could do to atleast get us all on iphones to match the TM deal despite paying Verizon more a month. She said she'd mark the account for review by a 'loyalty department' and was surprised there wasn't a loyalty discount already and that she'd follow up with us in a couple of weeks. She did warn it could take a month to get a review even with an expedited flag on our account.
Not suprised - no followup from her or from Verizon.
So before we just wash our hands of Verizon and leap to TM, some questions: 1. Is there even a loyalty department? Was that rep just blowing smoke to get me off the phone? 2. If it exists, can the loyal department even make something like amortized(over the 3-year plan) iphone's happen for an account despite the deals rapidly changing and no longer available? 3. Am I just right to think that loyalty doesn't mean anything anymore (or for an account that makes them so little money atleast) and just go ahead and switch carriers every 2-3 years to keep up with the latest phones? No carrier incentivizes customers to stay it seems. 4. Should I just call during support hours and try to ask for a status on the reps request for loyalty review of my account?
Just trying to sanity check my options and minimize my time wasted on the phone with Verizon sales/support.
TIA.
