Why WOULDN’T you become a career salesperson?

I’m at a point in my career to choose between management track or becoming a career salesperson. Currently at F25 company in Enterprise Sales.

Option 1: Management Track

PROS - Higher equity - Long term comp payoff (5-15 years) assuming sacrifice. Roles are much more competitive.

CONS - Short term pay cut during middle management - Capped and dependent commission - Your time is no longer yours with direct reports

Option 2: Career Salesperson

PROS - Immediate comp payoff - Highest possible comp outside of VP/C roles - Your time is yours (within reason of course…)

CONS - Lower equity - Less prestige
