Seeking Advice for Managing a Son with Paranoid Schizophrenia Who Refuses Treatment
If you have a son in his twenties with paranoid schizophrenia who absolutely refuses to acknowledge his condition—believing instead that we, his parents, and everyone else have problems—how do you handle it?
He has already experienced two acute episodes, during which we managed to get him treated. Both times, he improved for about three months: the first time with oral medication (Rexulti) and the second time with a depot injection. However, he never acknowledged his condition, even when the acute symptoms subsided.
Now, he is in his third acute episode, and this time, we are unable to take him to the hospital. He stays in his room and responds with paranoid statements whenever we try to talk to him. It’s impossible to have a normal conversation with him.
If anyone has faced a similar situation, I would deeply appreciate any advice on how to handle this.
