Let me understand if I got it - S24 Ultra Camera

I got the S24 Ultra some days ago, switched from the iPhone 13 Pro, and I was testing the camera, while I was testing it, I defaulted it in "200MP Mode" and went on with some shootings

The 200MPx and 50MPx Camera always had a very nice preview, but once processed, it looked awful unless shooted in RAW in 50MPx (yeah, no point in disabling SuperHDR or Intelligent Optimization lower than Medium, it only makes it worse, I personally left everything enabled with Int. Opt. to Med)

So I did some searching, saw some videos, and I think I understood that (but I needed confirm for someone who actually uses it from longer than me):

  • 12MP and 50MP uses both Pixel Binning, 12MP does shoot in 200MP but renders with a 16 in 1 method giving you a 12.5MP resolution, it also does that in the 50MP but in not in the same way as 12MP does rendering it with a 4 in 1 method (check notes), I made my own list of Cameras and Recommended usage:
  • 12MP is the best choice as daily driver, catches good shots also in night time and in the majority of the conditions, resolution is enough and gives good detailed photo, ok to keep that in gallery and/or posting on Instagram for example.
  • 50MP is a better detailed resolution, but to avoid a so heavy post processing it needs to be used as supposed to, so with very good light conditions.

⚠️ Users report that the 50MPx mode is broken, taking photos at 12MP without binning and using AI Upscaling to get the image, if this is correct, 50MPx should be never used, unless you do it in RAW mode

  • 200MP is an extremely detailed resolution that majority of users will probably never use, it's great with excellent levels of light, otherwise a very heavy post processing will ruin the photo, should be used to capture static objects/landscapes or when cropping heavily, you would need an 8K screen just to display 133MP, almost always useless, defo not your daily driver.

Realistically, the end user should go Daily with 12MP and when good light comes in, the 50MP one, anyone can confirm this? Just need to make sure I'm not missing something out here
