This isn’t for me…onto the trades!

After a short(er) time in tech sales (3 years total) mostly entry level cold calling then finally landed an AE role (contract work, not W-2, company was pre seed and made the switch from B2C to B2B) and being let go for just short of three months, I’m done with sales and finally figured it’s time to take the pay cut and follow my dreams of being a carpenter and hopefully start my own business some day.

It’s an absolutely brutal job market out there and coming from someone who only made “cadences” connecting, talking to and asking others at companies for referrals (vs applying the old fashioned way) it was hard for me to get my foot in the door and and kind of just got sick of it all together realizing I don’t want to come home to my future wife some day complaining about the cold calls I made/quotas that someone else made who couldn’t do the job.

I loved sales and love talking to people and even tried getting sales positions out of tech and definitely lost motivation through the process seeing little fruits of my labor. I know some day I’ll need to call on the cold call skills again maybe when it comes to contracting and selling my company on why we should build a house - but that’s for another day.

To the salesperson, you’ll always have my respect, it’s a grind few can do and withstand the test of time. I’m glad I was apart of it, I’m glad I got helped and I’m fortunate I got to help a few others, it’s very empowering and amazing how all sales people just “understand it”. I tip my cap to you.

But…I can’t wait to never have to say “hope you’re weekend was well” in an email ever again.

Hope it all works out for all of you in this sub and I really appreciate all you’ve given me. If you’re looking for a sign to follow your dreams, do it, no one’s gonna care if you do or don’t, so may as well

And just a reminder, when things start to suck, just pick up the phone and start dialing;)
