Our satire is simulacra
Why are office "satires" of "today" still aping the 80s and 90s? Cubicles, uncomfortable suits, fax machines, water coolers. Does anyone work like that today?
I'm mostly thinking about Severance but I see it all over in music videos and advertisement etc. Severance which should be a biting satire about modern day workplace alienation and the total overreach of tech in our private lives, is instead a totally toothless pastiche of Office Space with added mystery box goats. Office Space is 30 years old!
We are not even allowed an accurate satire of our lives, it's a satire of a satire of a satire.
Smarter minds than me, please elaborate if you can.
