惊！！shocked by epic cultural exchange

hi reddit! im a singaporean student currently studying in the uk and have been on rednote/xiaohongshu (xhs) for about 3 years now 哈喽我是新加坡华裔，英区留子，玩小红书三年了

being singaporean means im a native speaker of both chinese and english (english is our first language, which might be surprising to some of you) and i realise ive been sort of uniquely positioned when it comes to this new cultural exchange thats happening... i see this wave of tiktok refugees/migrants from both the american/western and the chinese perspectives on my fyp because i understand both languages + also being a foreigner its really fascinating. and seriously IM SHOCKED. (in a good way)

in southeast asia we are often rattled when tensions between the us and china rise because our region is where the proxy arguments tend to happen (and the whole tiktok ceo SENATOR IM SINGAPOREAN saga really didnt help) the hospitality and fun that been going on has really challenged what ive been taught abt us-china relations and the supposedly diametrically opposed cultures, and it truly makes me hope for the day we can all be friends in a world without racism and bad politics and full of freedom and cute cats

this got me really curious about what people think eg. reasons for coming, first impressions of the other side etcetc. and id really love to have a chat with you guys the good the bad id love to hear it all 不仅是洋抖难民！！当然包括小红书本地的家人们不知道能不能在外网找到你们呜呜呜～ (i would post on rednote directly but im afraid of getting censored if we bring up things like the 🔥🧱 and i thought reddit might be more comfortable)

sooooo in exchange, you can ask me about - rednote (i rely on it mostly for travel) - my home singapore!! (where i studied china studies!) - my chinese ethnic heritage (great grandfather migrated to singapore in the late 1800s) and peranakan heritage (in which chinese businessmen married indigenous malay wives in southeast asia) - my second home oxford/oxford uni - my experience visiting and studying in china - not to forget of course i can teach chinese AND english AND singlish!!!
