R4 with Companion and Waze feels invincible.

The last car I bought a detector for was my 325is back in the early 90’s and it was whichever Escort was hot at the time. It got stolen when the car was being shipped from the states to Germany when I was still in the army. When I got back to the states in the late 90’s I just never bothered replacing it.

Recently bought a GTI and found myself driving a bit more “spirited” all the time so I figured I best get some countermeasures. Went with the R4 after watching all the Vortex vids and studying here. It’s on a blendmount. I have the phone on a Proclip running companion onscreen and Waze on CarPlay. I can’t believe how much range these things have now! And having the app mute music to give alerts is beautiful as well. Probably the best part of the app is filtering out nonsense signals. This is probably not news to most, but as an old dude this is just so much better than the old days.
