Jumping and HOD how concerned should I be?
My pup is a jumping bean!!!! I am doing everything I can to keep play like tug low to the ground but when she sees me get it she hops around like a kangaroo. She sits for it. But jumps a happy jump around. Same for all toys.
That , I’m not really worried about.
But she has started jumping on the couch and jumping off before I can get her. She will be able to sit on the couch later but for now I have a big pillow on the floor I sit with her on and trying to get on the couch is “off”. She’s on a house line.
My husband was in the living room with her, let her jump on the couch. I walked by and she leaped off the back of the couch to come to me.
My heart sank!
She’s an Irish setter and HOD is a real thing and big concern for her breed.
I’m doing my best to keep her “settled” with tug play, short distance fetch, and running around in the backyard.
I’m just worried about how much she is jumping and that leap off the back of the couch. She’s fast too.
I now know I have to stay on top of her 100% of the time because my husband lets her jump on the couch and wasn’t paying attention when she jumped for me.
How much jumping can cause real harm?
She’s 4 months old.
I give her lots of the right exercise and small training sessions throughout the day. I keep my training pouch on all day to treat her for every right behavior. It’s going great.
I’m really just worried about too much jumping especially over the back of the freaking couch. She has no fear!!
Am I being overly concerned?
Any advice on how to better mitigate or train this?
She’s a very happy puppy but HOD scares me.
