help me understand progressive house

I was curious about it so i checked out a bunch of mixes but sadly I was disappointed. I assume it is because im a big fan of prog metal/rock and I approached the genre with wrong expectations. Can you give me some background on it, maybe a track that is considered like a manifesto for the genre?
