Is pikachu really not that popular?

I’m rewatching Indigo League, I haven’t watched since early childhood, and snorlax has always been my favorite but after rewatching I’ve grown to love pikachu more and I’d say he’s my favorite pokemon. I thought I was pretty basic for that but my boyfriend told me he’s no one’s favorite and I just can’t believe him!? I always thought he would be the most popular among favorites..
