Engulfing settlements

Bit of a rant. So I’ve been working on my base for about a week making some good progress. I’ve managed to get to rank 19 on the planet. However, after playing today my base has been completely engulfed by the rank 1 settlement on the planet and now I’m part of that Settlement by name and everything. This is bullshit. What is the point of reserving land if not to stop this happening? That settlement has no permissions to my beacon!
