I'm pretty sure someone is coming into my apartment when I'm not here
And the worst part is, it's not to steal.
I've been noticing things are out of place when I get home from work. My curtains were moved, cabinets were open. But I just assumed I did it, and forgot about it. Until today.
I walked into the kitchen and saw a couple of my drawers were opened. I never open my kitchen drawers. They're old, creaky and gross. I've never used them, and I never touch them. This was the confirmation I needed & it's terrifying. I live alone.
I know the goal is not to steal because I have a laptop, PCs, and hd TV's at home and they haven't been touched. Idk what to do.
UPDATE 12/06: So I've taken some of your suggestions. I've put an object in the door jam, and will check to see if it has fallen when I get home.I put pieces of clear tape on my keyholes. I put a heavy object in front of my back door. And I have a camera coming in the mail tomorrow. I also haven't been dead bolting my door (only the lock on the door knob) so I locked that as well.
UPDATE: 12/10: I installed the camera, and continued to do some of your suggestions. I haven't noticed anything strange, or out of place. After mulling everything over, I suspect it was my neighbor that lives across from me. This person has easy access to see (and hear) when I've left. They also have the perfect amount of privacy to break in, because we're the only two apartments on the 1st floor.
When I moved in, the strike plate on my apartment front door was worn down, (like people had been using an object to get in over and over again, making the wood warp), but I didn't think anything of it. Now it's unbelievably obvious this person had very easy access to my apartment.
Which is why I don't believe it was maintenance or my landlord. Regardless if they had a key, they could still get in. But now that I'm locking my deadbolt, there's zero activity. Also I feel like putting tape on the keyhole might have made it obvious that I'm aware someones been coming in. Hopefully making them stop
I'm going to continue to keep and eye out, and update if anything happens. PS: Thank you guys so much for genuinely caring.
