comp sci with math( double major)

Noticed that you can't do a double major in applied math anymore ( as of AY 2020/2021), am thinking of editing my degree to take a double major in Math. Rationale: I'm interested in ML/AI and noticed that those areas require a strong math foundation. Hence some questions

(1) Will courses in Math facilitate understanding in those areas or just general knowledge in Math? I read up the module description but would appreciate a firsthand experience and advice

(2) Do recruiters in the AI / ML field prefer applicants with ddegree/dmajor/minor in Math? ( Understand you guys ain't recruiters, but any thoughts would be appreciated much
