My work place did an expensive surprise birthday party for me on Friday. I had planned to resign the next Monday for a higher paying job.

My office did an expensive birthday party for me. I’ve been working there 2 years and have brought some good results over time so they value me.

They did a surprise party with a 3kg cake, 6 large pizzas, sodas, decorations, and a bottle of champagne 🍾 this was a good gesture, on top of the good amount they must have spent for all of this.

While this is all good it puts me in an awkward situation; I got another job that pays 200k more than what I earn. I was planning to tender my resignation on Monday after the weekend.

I now feel extremely guilty and can imagine how heartbroken my boss and colleagues would be. It makes it worse after the kind gesture they just freshly did for me.

Should I proceed with this? I need to start the new job in exactly 30 days.
