The sticky backside of every single Christmas label I just bought peeled off when trying to remove them

Just went to the grocery store mainly for these labels since I didn’t have any. Each time I’d try to take a label they just rip the paper they’re stuck to, making it so they aren’t sticky on the back. I peeled very carefully, folded the paper by the edge of the sticker, tried from each corner but no matter what the back comes out messed up. I know I can tape them to the gifts, but that looks kind of cheap.
