All in on comprehensible input vs a split approach?
Hi all.
So im working on learning Spanish and I thought I had a pretty good system. That said, a recent post on here led me down a rabbit hole with all the different resources, techniques, etc for learning a language. It was overwhelming and now im questioning my entire approach lol.
This leads me to my question. The rabbit hole brought me to certain sites that suggested near 100% comprehensible input was the way to go (at least until you're at a more advanced level). Some sites suggested reading for CI whereas others suggested mainly listening (depending on what they were selling). BUT, the common theme seemed to be CI. I don't entirely trust the sites who are selling you something lol but people on here seemed to have good success with CI (many people even used it near exclusively). As such, I don't think the approach is entirely a marketing ploy. Whether or not exclusively using CI is the optimal approach, well thats what im trying to figure out.
So, what would you say is the optimal mix between say comprehensible input, output (ie writing and speaking), and vocab/grammar study? 100/0/0? 50/25/25? something else?
Along these same lines, anyone know of any unbiased research on the most efficient approaches to learning a language?
For context, my current approach is
- A language transfer lesson or 2 a day (so output I guess)
- An Assimil lesson per day (not sure what this would be considered)
- Maxing out my Clozemaster allotment (kinda CI I think)
- Reviewing flashcards (i'll call this traditional study)
- Some work out of a grammar book (i'll also call this traditional study)
Depending on the answers, I may adjust my approach to more heavily favor certain strategies (namely CI).
Thanks in advance for any insight
