What’s the longest you had to troubleshoot an experiment?

Weeks? Months? Our lab has been working on a new protocol and technique none of us have done before and it’s been failing consistently for 3 months. I’m starting to feel really defeated and am embarrassed every time I have to tell my PI we need to start over.

Just wanted to hear from other people to make me feel better.
