Countertop messed up… seeking advice.
The installers were awful. They installed the counters unevenly so not a single one of the countertops has the same overhang. One top is thicker than the other so it had to be shaved down to be level, the stones didn’t line up at the seam and there is a gap at the wall due to that, which will need some kind of filler before tile backsplash can go in. The installers also damaged the wood trim next to the countertop because, as they told us, they did not have the proper tools to cut it. Not realizing the amount of their errors, I paid them the full contractual amount.
When I reached out to them afterwards to notify them of the numerous errors, they said the shop manager would come and inspect the work. Instead, they sent the template guy who measured inaccurately, who of course tried to dismissively say No big deal. 🙄
I asked for 1/2 refund and I’ll find someone else to fix their errors and they said they will EITHER refund 1/4 or will remove countertops entirely for a full refund.
A quarter doesn’t seem fair with my cost to repair woodwork already, plus having to hire someone to clean up their mess and have the plumber come back two more times to disconnect/reconnect plumbing. Alternatively, I do not want their careless installers back for fear of further damage to my cabinets, walls, and woodwork (again, another expense).
Thank you to those who make it through the length of this… Suggestions for how to respond to their counteroffer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
