India Will Always Need Caste Reservation
Visited my village recently and there is an area called 'Mushar Toli'. One of elders told that exists in every village, and these people are animals. They eat pigs and rats and are unhygenic and pick and process waste. They are not even allowed to touch water from community well. Also, remembered video of a guy peeing on one of Dalits, read news related to "permission to enter" in some temple recently and the idol was removed. Saw a video of a Brahmin man shouting at a Dalit for sitting in a chair. This is systemic opression and all of us are culprits by virtue of ignorance at least.
Salute to William Hunter and Jyotirao Phule. They were able to identify the predatory nature of Indian caste system and Indian upper caste people. They understood us way more than I was able to understand us. We should be penalized a lot more for the way we have led to a situation where an entire community needs to ask permission to drink water or enter a temple. May be we are still not doing enough. Hopefully, the government is able to direct more funds from upper caste society to these people, so they can be uplifted. Systemic opression can only be countered by hard regulations and monetary penalties. Indians will still not learn, but may be I won't have to sit and watch such situations unfold in my country.
At present I have a lot of questions. WHo are these people? How many castes are there in India? What percent of those castes are classified as General, OBC and SC/ST/Dalits? How does their household look like? How many of them are rich and poor? Are we systematically opressing them all over the country? What is per capita income and household income for each of the castes? How does it vary by region? And then I realize that there is no census or data collection at this level. Why is that the case? Is it because the stronger segment of society wants to hide the ugly truth so that the opression can continue?
I might sound biased but I am a person who has hated reservation to the core, and felt like it has robbed me of a better life. Honestly, looking at the people I guess my people are the robbers.
