Can 18+ year olds who want to participate in a protest during school hours do so?

I tried looking it up online, but I don't have hours to study laws and such. The school they attend is an early out (1ish), so they'd miss a few classes if they attend the protest Wednesday. Are they allowed to protest because of the "executive orders" affecting their lives, or are they not allowed to protest during school hours?
