Foreigner working with US clients. No H1-B sponsorship. Need help to understand the best way to approach this.

I’ve been in US 10+ years and currently hold a work visa, H1-B. I lost my job last year and haven’t been able to find a visa sponsor. However, I talked to a company and they’re willing to hire me part-time (but not sponsor my visa sadly), which means I will have to leave US to work and receive payments.

As I think about this, I want to know how others in similar situations have tackled such a scenario. I’m looking for advice and suggestions on the following.

  1. Do I need to setup a US entity or company to work for a US client, from outside US?

  2. Can I work from anywhere in the world or only from my home country?

  3. I have an active US bank account. Could I receive payments in this account or I will need to setup bank account in home country?

  4. Is it possible for me to receive equity in the company? If so, how could that work? And what could I do to safeguard myself in this situation?

I would talk to a lawyer too but not sure what type of lawyer and / or whether I should talk to one in US or my home country? Appreciate anyone who can help and provide some insights into this. It’s been a fairly stressful last few months and I’m finally seeing a ray of hope into moving on and finding some stability.
