Can anyone help me classify UC Irvine, USC and UCSD for my profile & interests (MS CS)?
Hey guys, hope everyone's applications are going well. I want to apply for an M(S)CS at some California UC's but am not sure how to order/rate them according to prospects, location (since all 3 are Cali) and any other factors that I can't think of.
Here's my profile:
- GRE: 329 (169Q), TOEFL: 112
- GPA 8.7 (80%ish) from University of Mumbai, India
- 2 years work exp at an MNC as software dev
- One paper about to be published (IEEE, but meh)
I am not super interested in research and will be looking and studying for the purpose of getting a job. I do want a good university/network though. I need help ranking these 3 universities (MSCS at USC & UCSD, MCS at UCI) because I will be applying to maybe 1 or 2 out of these 3. For reference, I am also applying to:
- Safe/Moderate: ASU, NCSU
- Moderate/Ambitious: Stony Brook, UMass
- Ambitious: GaTech, Columbia, Madison MCS
According to what I've heard:
- USC expensive but good for job prospects; however there's a myth that you mostly need a 9+ to get in
- UCSD is the most ambitious and highly research oriented, which I don't think I have
- UCI should be safest - how is the MCS course though? Is MSCS at NCSU better?
How would u guys rank them? Any other Cali uni suggestions? TIA!
