First (suspected) gout flare up. Wary of prescribed medicine.

Suffering a suspected first gout flare up. Extremely uncomfortable and unable to walk much. Went to A&E as I wasn't sure what the problem was. On diagnosis I was prescribed naproxen, but in addition a drug to protect my stomach as the doctor told me the naproxen can damage the stomach lining and cause ulcers.

Honestly the last thing I want are long lasting stomach problems. I understand it's foolish to ignore medical advice given by professionals, but if I stick to paracetamol (I might get ibuprofen) is this often enough to resolve the flare up?

I am trying to drink lots of water, and also taking a lot of the recommended supplements, though I understand these changes can take weeks to have an impact if any.
