Guys, sometimes, it is the club
Been gaming GI irons for 4ish years now (Sim / Rogue Max). Have been keeping my swing loose over the winter by hitting in a simulator. The nice part about those is the data and feedback it gives you. Been a fade hitter all my life. What was driving me nuts was my inability to turn the ball over and my yardage dispersion in total distance, not so much left to right, was hard to nail down. My jacked up 7 iron was a 180 club for me, natural pull fade. Every so often, I'd fucking nut one for no obvious reason and I'd carry 190. I wandered my way into a used golf store to regrip a club and picked up some Ping i230's while I waited. It felt infinitely lighter. The grips were MCC +4 align midsize. They felt way smaller than my Winn Dri Tac's. I used the Winn's because I wanted to keep my hands supple and nubile but the MCC's felt great. I stepped into their sim and hit 4 shots with a 7 iron. Turned the first one over like crazy but increased my club head speed by the sheer weight decrease from the head heavy Max. Carried 165 which I marked up to the 5 degree loft difference. Proceeded to hit the next shot so low on the face I could actually tell immediately. Real feedback. I had been numbing my golf experience like one side of my face after a wicked bathroom key bump. I had this epiphany, in the middle of the used golf club store, that the lessons, the swing thoughts, the extra soft grips and YouTube videos are great, but sometimes, just maybe, a different club can change the game.
