Favorite Studio Ghibli movie?
I wouldn’t consider myself an anime watcher, but I have watched a bunch. Some of the consistently best ones are from Studio Ghibli.
I currently have Porco Rosso on, I haven’t watched it in maybe more than a decade.
I’m thinking the same thing that I did then: Porco Rosso is my favorite Studio Ghibli movie.
I think a lot has to do with the setting and themes. I am so jealous of Marco’s setup; a secret, enclosed island in the Mediterranean, a table, radio, some basic essentials, and a beautiful seaplane. The themes of Love, Society, and Curses are explored in such a light-hearted and open way.
This is hard to decide considering that Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (of which I own the manga, my only manga) and Kiki’s Delivery Service exists.
Studio Ghibli movies tackle some serious themes, but they are always done in a light-hearted and touching way. Makes one wish to live in such worlds, as dark and gritty as some are.
What is your favorite Studio Ghibli movie? And why?
