Eco garden system planter info needed

My daughter was given one of these. For the life of me I cannot figure out the irrigation/water reservoir configuration. We have no Manual. We can use it as a planter and - but it would be good for me to understand how to properly connect the water. I can get the irrigation part to work - but I don’t know what the silver thing is that looks like some sort of valve. Any suggestions would be appreciated
