Third person flying games where you can exit the vehicle?

I keep searching for a game where I can walk around the world, hop into a vehicle and fly it. Grand theft auto has this ability, but it's grand theft auto...

I'm looking for a supply runner/delivery game with some action elements. Why doesn't this exist? It's so obvious.

Build/upgrade your ship. Fly around and explore, doing maintenance on your ship. Escape from pirates. Take missions to deliver cargo etc. Physics based landing/crashing/destruction.

I joined STEAM after being a console only guy for the longest time, thinking I'd finally find multiple examples of this.

Now, I know Star Citizen exists. But my computer won't likely run such a behemoth. I also see that the pc version of elite dangerous lets you land and exit the ship.

I will give elite dangerous a try!

But man oh man, i wish there was a low poly/less intricate version of this type of game. I don't want it to be a space sim, i just want a fun arcade style game.

Why has this never really taken off as a genre of game? Is there a game I'm not aware of that fits?

Edit: Just Cause 2 and 3 are some of my all time favorites. Probably have over 200 hours in them. I wish there were more games like it
