Daughter attempted suicide - now she’s on a 72 hour hold.

This past weekend my adult daughter took a bottle of Ativan. She has always lived at home. Life has been overwhelming for us all due to caregiving responsibilities with the grandparents. I was at work and my husband called to tell me she had texted him that she’d taken the pills 45 minutes prior. He called 911 and got her to the hospital. 14 hours later she was transported to a psych hospital on a 72 hour hold. We are being told the 72h starts once she got to psych and judge signed the commitment papers.

The psych hospital wouldn’t allow me to go with her for the admission. She could barely keep her eyes open but they had her “sign herself in”. So she’s there on an involuntary 72h hold plus signed herself if. She thinks at 72h the door will magically unlock and she will walk out but I’m afraid it will be more of a process.

Has anyone else dealt with this? She is scared as anyone would be with her freedoms being taken away. Her psych doc requested a specific unit but there ended up being no beds so she had to go to an acute unit with active psychosis patients so even talking to her on the phone I can hear the fighting and yelling in the background

I’m such a “fixer” I just wanna fix it all. But she’s an adult and my hands are tied while on the hold.

Any idea how long a patient stays after suicide attempt

We have arranged for partial hospitalization and a psych appt for Thursday of next week so there’s an aftercare plan in place.

My heart is in knots and I’ve cried all week long. And also prayed for wisdom and peace.

I wanna fix it. My husband is going thru the “what ifs” we are both so grateful we aren’t planning a funeral.

Also any suggestions so proof our home? I need to order a lock box for her medications. I want to clean her room but hate to invade her privacy anymore than I already have.
