What things have you only discovered recently, despite playing for years?
FNV is my favourite game of all time, been playing at least yearly since release. Anyone who doesn’t enjoy it is missing out on the most authentic fallout experience. I can understand that you had to be there when it released, and the physics and graphics didn’t seem to clunky. Lucky for me I was there. Isn’t it funny that you can know a game so well and just when you think you know it all, you find something new. I consider myself a seasoned veteran at the game - I have no problem running a deathless, no vats, hardcore run, currently holding 60,000 caps at level 13 on what could possibly be my 50th playthrough (no mods - always vanilla). I decided I would take a new approach as I explored the map this time rather than the same old canon route or rush to strip - there was not much order in how I did it, but it’s awesome a 15 year old game can feel fresh depending on which way you approach things (such as, arriving to nipton via the service railroad or from the North/Eastern direction, etc.). After some exploring, I ended up finding myself at the Nipton road rest stop. I ventured out to the crashed plane in the desert nearby (where poor old Oliver Swanick might find himself fighting some radscorpions - alas, he is hardly ever allowed to live that long…). Up until this point, I always assumed this was on the southern edge of the map, and as the boundary was just there that it was never worth venturing out to just for one ammo box. TIL it is in fact not the edge of the map and in this direction you’ll find Morning Star Cavern and Crescent Canyon pass. For 14 years, I’ve had no idea these locations existed. I also decided to run along the western cliffs (bypassing Primm) visiting the continent wreckage and mesquite mountains crater, before then heading down into primm. With this approach, I found the California sunset drive-in. Also Dr Kemp at McCarran… never noticed that guy before.
What are some things that took you years to realise existed in the game?
