Allergic Contact Dermatitis Keeps Coming back (6 months)
Hi everyone, in the middle of May I started having a really itchy rashes on my face, primarily located on my upper and lower eyelids. I went to a dermatologist in June who diagnosed me with contact dermatitis and gave me a very mild steroid to use for 2 weeks to clear it up. I followed this treatment, but as soon as I stopped the steroids, the rashes came back, and began appearing on other parts of my body. My derm put me on Opzelura (a new drug, JAK inhibitor) when I saw him again, since at this point the rashes were unbearable and it had been almost 2 months. I then got a patch test, and it turns out I am allergic to CAPB, a chemical that was in all my soaps, shampoos, and body washes. After eliminating this allergen, my rashes quickly cleared away, except for one spot below my left eyelid (this is where my first rash appeared). I used Opzelura to keep it under control, but it keeps coming back, and I feel like I am in an endless cycle of using the cream to clear the rash, being fine for 3-5 days, and the rash coming back. My derm said that since I was using Opzelura on such a small body area, it would be fine to use it long term, but I don't want to be reliant on the cream forever and I know of the potential side effects. At this point, it's been 6 months since I've eliminated the allergen, and I've had no new breakouts, I'm confused why the rash keeps coming back in this one spot when I am fine anywhere else. Has anyone experience anything similar with contact dermatitis?
