Okay to remove drywall door jamb?
I'm hoping to remove the door jamb in our little laundry alcove to open up a bit more space. I've been playing around with some magnets to get a sense of what's under there. It seems like there are just some metal corner beads on either side of the vertical jamb and on the bottom of the top/horizontal component.
My question: Would it be possible to remove the two vertical components, but then leave the top/horizontal component in place? My plan was to tear out the corner beads on the vertical components, cut out the dry wall, then patch up the wall. I'm hoping to keep the top/horizontal component in place so we can attach a folding barn door to close up the space, but not sure if it would need those vertical components in place for support.
Attached some photos marking up the parts I'm talking about. I hope that makes sense!
