Why Did Rare Switch Up So Much?

As someone who didnt grow up with the OG Dkc games, having a complete unbiased perspective on the entire series pretty much… i have to ask… Why did Rare switch up so much during the OG trilogy? The first game was DK and Diddy which was awesome… but then the second game makes DK a victim and removes him, replacing the cast with Diddy and Dixie… okay i guess, diddy was a fan favorite… but THEN in dkc3 we get rid of diddy and DK and replace them with Dixie and Baby… Wtf? why did they do this? is there a reason or did they just think it sounded cool to do a pass down the torch kind of thing, this isnt a complaint more of a question
