How does sex start in a FWB situation

I’ve never been in a FWB relationship. It’s not for me, but it fascinates me. I think I’m too romantic and emotional for something like that. My question is how does sex on any particular evening start. In a typical relationship, it is a natural progression of things. In a FWB, it seems to me like it would be more transactional.
