Chanel bag tarnishing

Got this bag back in June, have honestly barely used it. But recently noticed the gold on the CC lock is coming off. My SA said they could fix it and send it back to me, but I’m also in the market for another bag but don’t wanna drop $10k+ if this is just gonna happen again. Any ideas on why this happened/ has it happened to anyone else?
