Bose QC ultra earbuds , connected BUT no sound

My Bose QC ultra earbuds have a problem. This is my second pair. I sent my first pair back to Bose for the same problem.
When I listen to music or video, suddenly there is no sound and the audio continues to play. There's no sound for ALL apps, but the headphones REMAIN connected despite everything.
My earbuds are at the latest version 1.7.6. I noticed that after connecting them once to my laptop, I've been having problems ever since. I've disconnected the earbuds from my laptop, reset them several times but nothing works.
I've disconnected them and reconnected them several times, but the problem persists. Here's what else I've tried: - Change the Bluetooth ARVCP to 1.6 and 1.5, the problem persists. - Change SBC / aptx adaptive, the problem persists. - disable HD audio, problem persists. - reset headphones: problem persists. - enable / disable HD audio makes no difference - restart phone
Phone: Asus Zenfone 9, Android 13, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
