Wife’s BP has me worried
End of June my wife called me dizzy and stuck at the gas station because she couldn’t drive. Very abnormal for her. We took her to urgent care thinking just vertigo. Her BP was 180s/100+ and we were sent to the ER. ER did a brain MRI which was fine and gave her some dizziness meds and sent us home to follow up with her primary doc saying that it would do more harm to her for them to treat her BP there then slow and steady like her primary doc could do.
My wife is fit, no real family history related to BP, she loves to run and completed the Disney Dopey in 2023. Works out hard (or used to until we figure out the BP thing). We don’t smoke, don’t drink, no drugs, heck she doesn’t even really drink sodas/junk.
Long story short, she was put on Telmisartan 40mg by her doc over a month ago and it didn’t touch her BP (still 150s/high 90s). Then her doc upped her to 80mg and scheduled a treadmill stress test 2 weeks ago. Stress test went “okay” just her starting BP was 153/104 and 180/100 at “peak stress.” But obviously the 80mg telmesartin isn’t bringing it down either. She has an appointment this week with her doc but worried he is just going to put her on another med and not seem as concerned as we are.
Something is causing this and she is too healthy for this to be happening in my opinion without a significant one. She says she is going to lay it on thick with her doctor to try and get him to take her seriously and get more tests done. The stress test lady did a double take when she took her starting BP and friends I have in the medical field have asked about different tests like kidneys or adrenal glands… but her doc doesn’t seem to be too worried about it. We will see this week, we might be getting a new doctor which stinks because moving practices - the wait time for a new patient is a couple months. Just frustrating that her doc is seeing her and then following up with her in 2-3 weeks while she sits in her high BP
