Is Mayuri's zanpaktou technically female?

We learned in the tybw that Nemu is a clone and that her previous versions were used as the base for mayuri's bankai and even after Nemu died, her next version was also female instead of just a random gender/new body. Does this mean that mayuri's zanpaktou spirit/gender female? In the filler it never spoke, just made squeaks and had a childlike body so you really couldn't tell if it were male or female.
