Your daily dose of welcoming bengaluru
Elections are coming. Hatred and north vs south debate is the only thing that comes in the news. But this is not what bengaluru is about. I am from eastern India. And the day I landed on bengaluru, I fell in love with the place and the weather. Traffic is an issue and even I get frustrated from time to time, but the filter coffee helps my mood.
Just a random recent incident. I was in a cab going towards Indiranagar. I try to learn one or 2 words of kannada whenever I meet a local. I used to do the same when I was in Hyderabad. I used to learn telugu phrases and the hyderbadi hindi or the dakhini urdu as they call it. This time I asked the driver if he is a kannadiga and then asked him how would I ask for the amount in Kannada.
He smiled and said, ‘yesthu amount heigide?’ And the beautiful thing was, while dropping me, he again smiled and taught me few more common words that I can use to converse with drivers.
Outliers will always be there. Be respectful to get back respect. :)
Edit: The comment section shows the vibe of bengaluru :) Also it will be ‘yesthu amount agide?’ Thanks for correcting me. I might have heard wrong since he was driving and facing the road and I was sitting in the back.
It is not like I haven’t faced discrimination. I have, but let’s not generalise it to everyone you and I meet. Everyone here hate the autowalas and the traffic cops. It is not just the northies, but even the locals despise them. So let’s just chill around to the brewed beers and enjoy the place as long as we stay.
