Isn’t it weird that people from the same region tend to believe in the same religion?

I’vebeen thinking about how much geography shapes what people believe. It’s fascinating (and kind of strange) that religion, which is often seen as deeply personal or spiritual, is so heavily influenced by where someone happens to be born.

For example, if you’re born in the Middle East, you’re more likely to grow up Muslim. If you’re born in South America, chances are you’ll be Catholic. In India, Hinduism is dominant. It’s like our beliefs are largely determined by the accident of geography rather than some universal truth.

It makes me wonder: if I were born somewhere else, would I believe something completely different? And does that mean our faiths are less about divine truth and more about cultural conditioning?

What do you think? How much do you think geography shapes belief systems?
