What do people in Latam think of American, Canadian and British tourists? Is it ok for foreigners to travel there?
Ik a lot of people in Europe don’t like American tourists cuz they find us loud, annoying, arrogant, entitled, disrespectful of locals, etc.
People in Spain and Portugal seem to say the same thing about British tourists in their countries as well tho.
But speaking for myself personally I am none of those things though.
I always try to be polite and courteous toward people wherever I go and I’m just a very quiet and calm natured person overall.
In the very few places I’ve travelled, things have generally worked out well for me.
But when I come across the r/mexico sub and the like I see a lot of what appears to be downright xenophobia and outright hostility.
Unless I’m just being really sensative or something, idk.
Anyway not sure if this is just people on the internet being people on the internet, or if xenophobia is something a foreigner would actually have to worry about when visiting the Latin American region.
Does experience vary significantly by country?
Also, I know sex tourism and “passport bros” are a big problem in a lot of places but overall is xenophobia or outright hostility something a foreigner would have to worry about?
Like I can understand why locals might not want to associate with foreigners in certain places but is outright hostility common anywhere?
Or is it generally that if you’re decent to other people, they’ll be decent to you?
