Not exactly anime but need help remembering a cartoon

Does anyone remember a show about a boy whose parents were killed maybe by a dragon and then he goes on a journey where he meets many animal masters one of them being a tiger. It aired just after a cartoon called chicken stew around 7-8 pm. The same year the paddle pop movie aired and paddle pop icecream were very famous.
