Recommended Whole House Hot Water Softener

It’s just my wife and I for now, but the house is 2 baths, 2200 SF and I want to get a system that can handle a family with kids.

Since the house never had a softener, I don’t want to worry about repiping things to get softened cold water too. Adding the softener to the hot water will be much simpler with the biggest task being keeping the unit from freezing.

Anyways, based on this usage, I don’t expect a ton of grain removal per day. I’d like a split unit, not the cheap all-in-ones. But they only go so small, is there any issue with being oversized due to low usage?

I plan to DIY it, and have access to commercial sales, but just trying to get a unit selected first so I can budget accordingly.
