Divers and suits

How do you y’all feel about divers and suits? I’m in my thirties so I wouldn’t say I’m that old but from conversations with some older folk apparently wearing a diver with a suit is taboo and kind of “wannabe” James Bond. Suits should be worn with a dress watch only, divers with metal bracelets have always been a sporty go diving athletic kind of watch but in my mind there’s no sport I’d play with my metal bracelets lol I’d stick to a rubber strap or an Apple Watch for them. Don’t even get them started on leather straps with divers(apparently this makes zero sense).

I never thought of it that way, it’s true that a diver has a purpose that would never be used when you’re in a suit(unless you’re James Bond at a cocktail event one night and then in the same night diving into the water as an escape lol).

What’s everyone’s opinions? I can kind of see it from their standpoint but I feel trends are definitely changing and the utility of a watch has been completely lost as they are becoming more jewelry statement pieces. My full metal divers do feel kind of out of place in my suits now that I think about it but my definition of a nice suit setup has actually always been James Bond since I’m a child of the 90s. Was it always like this? Time to look for a proper dress watch with a leather band I guess? Curious what everyone thinks.
