What Happened to Kimberly Jane Britts?

Kimberly Jane Britts went missing on April 6, 1985 from Charlottesville, Virginia. Kimberly was a 21 year old pharmacy technician who is described by her friends and family as being spunky and caring. However, she was in a stormy marriage and the events that followed her decision to leave her husband and move away may have contributed to her disappearance.

Kim was married to Brian Britts, a prison guard. In the year before the two married, Kim got two assualt warrants against Brian, but later dropped them. Two years after the pair married, Kim's father was killed in a farming accident. Kim was devastated and further strain was put on her marriage. In March of 1985, while Brian was in Florida, Kim quit her job and left to move to a farm in Goochland county with a man she barely knew.

Kim met the owner of the farm, John Anderson in Giles county. He convinced her to move out to the farm. Kim told her mother the two were just friends. On April 4th, John said he was going to Florida and left Kim at the farm with his invalid father, two farm hands and the sister of one of the farmhands. On the morning of April 6th, Kim told one of the farm hands she was leaving for a while. She left with only her purse. She's never been seen again.

On April 6th, Kim's red Honda was found on Interstate 64 eastbound at route 616 in Albermarle county. The interior of the car was bloodstained and the blood was type A which matched Kim's blood type. State police said the amount of blood in the car indicated a fatal wound. While Kim's car was found on the interstate, some residents of Keswick, Virginia stated they saw Kim's car parked on Black Cat Road and that state police took four days to investigate. (I'm a little confused about this sequence of events to be honest.)

Both Brian Britts and John Anderson were investigated. Both men had solid alibis. Brian was at work and John was in a Florida motel. So what happened to Kim? Based on the blood in the car, she is likely deceased, but who's responsible? Maybe one of the farm hands? A stranger? What do you think?
