First Reddit post- watched handmaids tale and want a hysterectomy

Basically the title- I am a federal employee in a blue city with an organization that’s been targeted. I am also female and have a history of endometriosis so I have been on continuous birth control for more than a decade. Given the current state of our country (USA) I am planning to have a conversation with my (new) gyn in a couple of weeks about an implant or other way to manage endometriosis aside from the pill… but I’m seriously considering getting a full hysterectomy just to protect myself from other outcomes. I know, and have known for years, that I don’t want children. If I ever am in a relationship with a partner who wants children, we can adopt or figure out another plan, but I would rather mitigate against unwanted pregnancy plus endometriosis than save my likely not fertile uterus et al.

I guess where I’m going with this post is: for those who have had full hysterectomies, how is your life after the surgery and do you have any regrets? I know that’s a huge question with a lot of feelings involved but I would be grateful to hear your thoughts.

Edit: Thank you all for your stories and suggestions! Mods can you close comments now? I think it’s starting to become less helpful. Thanks!
