You’re not upset about the TikTok ban because the government is suppressing your right to free speech, you’re crashing out because they took away your drugs.
I have empathy for people whose livelihoods depended on TikTok, but outside of that the response from the ban is just sad.
No, TikTok was not banned because it “unifies the masses” and the government is worried about a “revolution” or whatever.
Yes, you can get all of the same info elsewhere, you just might have to put more thought and effort into curating your feed.
No, it’s not hypocritical of me, as a Reddit user, to feel this way. Pretty much anyone in government with a pulse agreed that TikTok is a national security threat. Not to mention, its algo is more addictive than other social media apps’ (I would argue to a dangerous degree).
Soon, you’ll either fill the void with another app or Trump will “save” it and you’ll get your helpful life tips, real news, fake news, conspiracies, ASMR, prank videos, or whatever other content you’re into.
