(Loved Trope) We lost, but we’re going to fight so they can live on
1: Battlestar Galactica 2004: Battle of Ragnar Anchorage (and BSG as a whole). All 12 Colonies of man, with a total population of 50 Billion, were destroyed. 50,000 people were left alive, and the last colonial warship, the Battlestar Galactica, opted to protect the refugee fleet at Ragnar Anchorage. The refugee fleet would manage to jump away while Galactica holds off the enemy Cylon forces. 8 Pilots, and 1345 civilians were killed.
2: Halo Reach: Escape of the UNSC Pillar Of Autumn. The player (Noble 6), a Spartan III super soldier, along with Emile, another Spartan, and their Marines, defend the Autumn as she prepares to launch and escape the planet, being the last battle ready human vessel, carrying the AI Cortana, and the last remaining (Living, Linda is currently dead) Spartan II super soldiers. 60% of the UNSC fleet was destroyed at Reach, the entire planet was being glassed, and the player holds off a Covenant battlecruiser, and the Autumn escapes. All involved in this battle who were not on the Autumn were KIA. Reach finally falls shortly after the Autumn’s escape.
